ATTENTION

Blue Sky is making a few changes that hopefully will keep flying affordable and fun! One challenge we have faced over the last few years is to retain our instructors. In order to allow them to be compensated as much as possible for their time, the members will pay them directly for their dual services. Currently the approved Blue Sky instructors are listed on the web site and are Cindy, John, Nick, and Scott. You will be billed only for your aircraft time through Blue Sky, just as always, but payment for the instructors would be to them directly by cash or check.

BLUE SKY NEWS …… Another busy month! Welcome new member Mike Frieders who is coming back to flying after a 20 plus year break, and to Rusty Ott, owner of ProSource, learning to fly with Scott in his newly purchased C172! Congratulations to Kathy Kohl and Pat Schroder on earning a tailwheel endorsement in our Citabria with JohnZach Pettry, Alan Pomp, Layne Henschen and Sue Anders are preparing for the Private Checkride, and Bob Lundsrud for his Instrument rating….Vlado Lenoch and his son Michael had a blast spending time together flying to upper Michigan in the Citabria….. You might see the Stearman we used to have on leaseback with a big McCain 2008 slogan painted on the bottom. The owners Pat and Kevin Brady are taking her all over the Midwest. They even flew up and down the lakeshore! (hope to have pictures of that soon on our site) … Hardworking CFI Mike Bernier left for his senior year at Embry-Riddle; see you next summer!...... John and Cindy gave rides to about 50 people at the Rochelle, IL fly in last week. If you are out flying stop by Rochelle airport and say hi to our former instructor Mark Delhotal, now busy working there promoting their airport….The FAA has amended the rule concerning FAA medical currency. A Third Class medical, if held by someone under age 40, is now good for FIVE years instead of three!!!   They actually implemented a rule to make flying a little less expensive!

Text Box: Sept 1-7: National Stearman Fly-In 2008 (GBG) All About Stearman, the 37th National Stearman Fly-In at the Galesburg Municipal Airport. It's the must-attend event of the year for Stearman enthusiasts – and for those who appreciate the contributions to America's freedoms made by these World War II-era biplane trainers and the men and women who flew them. This year's schedule will include programs on Stearman history, technical seminars on flying and maintaining these warbirds, a variety of flying contests, a Dawn Patrol, lunchtime flyouts, a pizza party and a Labor Day evening picnic. And there will be plenty of time to enjoy the sound of radial engines and relax with friends. The Fly-In's annual awards banquet on Saturday night and a Sunday morning airport breakfast will conclude the fun.

Sept 6-7: Schaumburg Family Aviation Day (06C) They are holding our annual family aviation fly in. Where the general public and come and see where aviation has been and were it is going. Sept 12-14: DuPage Airport B-17 Tour Stop (DPA) Hosted by EAA Warbird Squadron 4 EAA is offering historic flight experiences in its beautifully restored B-17G Flying Fortress "Aluminum Overcast." One of only 14 Fortress's still flying, this aircraft is an icon of the Allied strategic bombing effort that helped turn the tide of battle in World War II. Unlike reading a history book, you can actually fly a mission back in time and feel the might of this magnificent machine, just as those brave young men did more than 60 years ago. b17@eaa.org | 1-800-359-6217 http://www.b17.org
Sept 21st: EAA 241 Fall Fly-In/Drive-In Breakfast at Hinckley Airport 7am-12pm
Pancake breakfast! Pilots, and the general public alike, are invited to share in the nostalgia of grassroots flying with a fly-in (drive-in) pancake breakfast at the Hinckley Airport on Sunday, September 21. The Fly-in (drive-in) is hosted by the local Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) chapter 241. Pilots enjoy the opportunity to enjoy landings on the grass runway and our guests from the general public driving in enjoy the planes and have a fantastic breakfast. One of the things that we like best about the Hinckley Airport is that it is a great place to enjoy a pleasant day in the country while watching the skydivers, gliders and vintage aircraft. We bring a blanket for the grass and watch the airplanes after breakfast. The Fall Fly-In (Drive-In) will be open from 7:00 am until 12:00 noon on Sunday September 21 at The Hinckley Airport.
