Learning Corner

It’s a beautiful day, you call AWOS and listen to the recorded weather while driving.  Light winds and you just want to do a few landings. There are too many planes in the pattern at Morris, so you take off and decide to go to Lewis, since it has been a while since you landed there. You enter the pattern behind another plane whose pilot isn’t using his radio. As busy as the airport is today, you would think position reports would be a good idea! You turn final and someone finally talks on the Unicom. It is a controller telling you that there is a temporary tower at Lewis, you just flew into Class D without permission, and they want you to give them a call. You will soon get to know the local FAA guys.

How can you prevent the above? The only guaranteed way is to CALL 1-800-WX-BRIEF, and your N-number will be recorded asking for NOTAMS/TFR’s. In the event of an infraction, the tape will be pulled.
