Hangar Door VS Wingtip…..Hangar
Wins
The pilot putting this
plane away was trying to be considerate by taxiing close to the hangar so
that another plane could pass, but misjudged how close the wing was to the
bi-fold door that he subsequently opened. Tips to reduce “hangar rash”…

April was a busy month! We are happy
to have signed up a few more students along with a couple of new
instructors to keep them in the air. Welcome to Bob Venable, a CFI now
available during the day and on weekends as well as John Weber who you will see weekends and evenings.
Mark Delhotal is back for the summer and will be
available for tailwheel instruction and BFR’s. We are fortunate to have these instructors,
along with Andy, John, Robert and Stefano that share a passion for
flying and for teaching.
N7297Q had an interesting problem
last week. After hearing a strange noise on starting, the student and
instructor pulled the mixture and heard the starter still engaged. They
completely shut down and attempted to re-start. When they turned on the
master, the prop turned with the key
in the off position!! The cause was a stuck solenoid, which after
further investigation revealed that the solenoid in older model Cessna’s are
prone to that problem. A $20 replacement from Wicks was the simple cure,
but the lesson learned was worth much more…you might want to make sure the
plane is secure and your passenger isn’t wandering around near the prop
when you turn on the master during the preflight.
