What’s New at Blue Sky

Look for a Cub on line during the month of April!

A Note to Student Pilots

Spring is here, along with the much welcomed warmth and longer days, allowing some of you more opportunities to fly.  To make sure you, and others, are able to take advantage of this much-awaited season, please do the following:

Schedule ahead, and if you must cancel, please do so promptly to free up both the aircraft and/or instructor.

Book what you need, but try not to overbook.

Get your instructor’s approval before each solo flight, and an instructor on site must sign you out.

Please get fuel after your flight if you return with less than half-tanks.

Call ahead for weather. It may look great at your house, but Morris may have rotten weather, or vice versa.

Preflight yourself as well as your aircraft. Do you have the following?

o        Current medical w/ solo endorsement.

o        Solo endorsement in your logbook w/in the last 90 days.

o        Initial cross country endorsement on your certificate as well as an endorsement from an instructor that has checked your planning for that day.

o        An endorsement for any other airport that you land besides Morris.

o        Your logbook, certificate, and photo ID.

o        A current sectional chart

o        You have been signed off for solo flight by an instructor on the office sign-off sheet (new procedure).

Please remember that you must have the above in order to take an aircraft as a student pilot.

Fly Fun, Fly Safe

There are other changes to our flight line.  Not only do we have the 1982 Cessna 172 on line as of last month, we have done an Arrow switch!  A blue and white Piper Arrow is available to you for rent to replace N3065R.  With recent paint and interior, this PA-28R is very impressive.

The Citabria leaseback owner decided to move up to a faster plane and needs to sell the Citabria to do so.  Anyone interested in buying N8503, let me know.  You may even leave it on leaseback to help defer ownership costs. As the Citabria is off-line, I have begun looking for a replacement, such as a Cub.  Check the website during the month for updates!

Not only have we been busy with changes to the flight line, but to the office and hanger, too.  Some new paint and carpet in the office made a world of difference (while retaining the “charmJ ) and the hanger is getting a spring cleaning.

SUMMER EVENTS

Time to plan for some fun! Ideas such as a poker run, spot landing contest, flying to dinner, or to a museum such as Rantoul or Kalamazoo have been mentioned.  Next month’s newsletter will firm up the details for some of those items listed above, so mark off your calendar for third Saturday each month beginning in June to plan ahead.  Some of you have expressed interest in a Spin Awareness and Training Seminar.  The session will be offered with a maximum of four people.  Additional sessions may be added if there is demand. Please call for details.

CONGRATULATION MARK OLDIS ON YOUR FIRST SOLO! You won’t see his shirt tail hanging on the wall - he brought in an orange windsock for Charlie to endorse!

Text Box: CHANGES TO YOUR STATEMENT

As you read in the February newsletter, there is a dues rate change beginning in March. Your April statement reflects March dues, as flying activity and dues are billed at the beginning of the next month. You may have noticed that there is not an invoice that breaks down your charges as before. When you receive a receipt after a dual flight or for buying supplies, that receipt number will be on your statement along with the total. The receipts should match the statement. If you do not receive a receipt, you will see the tach time and aircraft type in place of a receipt number. If you would like copies of the invoices I will be more than happy to either mail or email them to you. Also, the current and past newsletters can be viewed on the Blue Sky Aero website. Would you be interested in receiving the newsletter and your invoice via email? I can set that up! Let me know.
