Blue Sky Aero Flying Club is proud to offer membership into our Aero Club located at Morris Municipal Airport, Morris, Illinois. Membership is a prerequisite for usage of Club aircraft by all pilots. Membership to pilots commences immediately upon acceptance. A one-day membership is available for those who would like to take an introductory flight in one of our aircraft. Only members may rent the aircraft.

  1. Member pays initial $400 retainer and monthly club membership fee of $25.00. This option allows for monthly billing of club aircraft usage. $300.00 of the retainer is fully refundable upon withdrawal from the club after six (6) months as long as the account balance is zero. The member benefits include plane rental and access to online aircraft scheduling. You must be a dues-paying member to solo any aircraft. Instructors, which must be approved by Blue Sky, are to be paid separately.

Operating an aircraft without a Blue Sky approved instructor  requires being a dues-paying member and to be checked out in the particular aircraft he/she wishes to fly and  The checkout consists of a basic knowledge test, and a flight check ride with an Aero Club approved instructor.

**
Night flights require a separate checkout if the pilot is not instrument rated, those who have less than 25 hours of night experience, or those who are not current at night. A separate night check out will be required for local and for cross-country night flights.

 Tach price vs Hobbs Price

Our rental rates are based on the tachometer speed based on hours of engine time used. The tachometer speed, measured in tenths of an hour, only operates close to actual clock (often recorded by a Hobbs meter in the aircraft) when the engine is operating at full power.  Usually training or local flights involve air maneuvering, multiple landings, and time spent taxiing. When operating at less than full power, the tachometer runs at a slower speed than actual time.  For instance, you may start the engine at 12:00 noon and shut the engine down at 1:00 pm.  You would log one hour of flight time.  The tachometer may only reflect .8 tenths of an hour (which is the average difference between tachometer speed and actual time).  Our tachometer price per hour for the Cessna 152 of $98 X .8 = $78.40.  A very good price for one hour of logged flight time!

Tailwheel Endorsement Course

Our tailwheel endorsement course is comprised of approximately five to eight lessons and three hours of ground school.  There is not a minimum flight hour requirement for the endorsement, but to solo our aircraft requires a private certificate or greater,100 hours total time and at least 10 hours of tailwheel time, at least 15 landings , or 25 hours tailwheel time and 5 make and model. Solo in any of our aircraft also require joining our flying club. You will perform some airwork, but most of the emphasis is on three-point and wheel  take-off and landings, crosswind landings, ground handling and emergency procedures including go-arounds.

You will pay for the Citabria's tachometer time, which is to your advantage!  Here's how:

  • Your fly one hour and will log one hour of flight time
  • The tachometer may only read 0.7 hours, which is not unusual during take-off and landing practice.
  • The Citabria club rate is $125/tach hour

                  You pay $125.00 x 0.7 = $87.50 estimated actual flight hour

If you complete the training in approximately 5 - 8 flight hours dual and three hours of groundschool time, your cost will be about $800-$1000. The cost and amount of time is based on individual performance.
